More than 100 spontaneous baptisms at Christian school anger some parents

Last Thursday (September 1), Northwood Temple Academy, a private Christian school in Fayetteville, North Carolina, held a Baptism service for some of their students to close their week of spiritual focus. The service resulted in 100 spontaneous baptisms.

The school, which is affiliated with the Northwood Temple Pentecostal Holiness Church, has approximately 450 students.

A Facebook post posted at the end of the school day announced the baptisms, quoting a Bethel Music/Song by Kalley Heiligenthal: “I feel it in my bones, you’re about to move!” Today, more than 100 middle and high school students have spontaneously declared their faith and been baptized today. We’ll be posting more photos of these highlights over the next few days.

Liz Ray, who was part of the school’s baptismal service and is the wife of Pastor Greg Ray, also posted on her social media what God had done.

“The baptisms this morning closed the week of spiritual accent and there were only two souls who had to be baptized. All week teachers and administration of high schools and colleges poured out in obedience to God the Father,” she wrote. “Then suddenly the Holy Spirit stirred the hearts of high school and college students and they began to respond to Him to make a declaration of faith – a public declaration of their salvation in christ.”

“Students kept wanting to be baptized! We tried to get the towels dry enough for the next person,” Ray said.

“More than 100 students responded. May the Lamb that was slain receive the reward for His sufferings! And yes, I got a little happy on my feet praising and thanking God for the privilege of witnessing such amazing work the Lord has done today,” Ray concluded with uploaded images of towels draped over bushes, railings and fences to dry.

Renee McLamb, who is head of the school, posted a live video of one of the christenings saying, “It’s happening now… NEW BIRTH ♥️ ♥️ Today the angels rejoice!! !!”

After the parents were informed of the day’s spontaneous baptism, upset parents began to wonder why they weren’t informed of their child’s decision to be baptized before it took place.

A parent told The Fayetteville Observer that her 11-year-old daughter called her from school while on a conference call at work asking her to bring a set of dry clothes because she had baptized. The mother responded to her child’s news with “What?”
