Dover First Christian Church will offer courses in financial planning.

DOVER ― Dover First Christian Church will offer courses from Dave Ramsey’s Financial Peace University, starting August 14.

The classes, designed to help people get out of debt and become financially independent, will run until October 9 and will be taught by the church’s youth pastor, Andrew George. Classes will be held from 6:30-8:00 p.m. at the Church, located at 3029 N. Wooster Ave., Dover.

The program is open to all members of the community. The cost is $130.

Attendees will watch videos of Ramsey, in which he explains the seven small steps to get rid of debt and create wealth. These steps are: creating an emergency fund; repay all your debts, excluding your mortgage; save three to six months for your expenses; prepare your children for their future; pay off your home sooner; and build wealth so you can give to others.

Ramsey, a well-known radio personality and author, has written several books on the subject of personal finance.

“I know the value of this program,” George said. “I’m 24 and have a well-established retirement account. I’m not in debt, other than a mortgage, which I’m working on.”

He now lives on a budget. “It gave me more freedom, because before I had a budget it was like, do I have this in my account? Can I afford it? Now I know it’s there, I know it’s taken care of so I’m going to be fine, ”he said.

Those wishing to attend classes can register at fpu.com/1151611. The deadline for registration is August 13.
