Harrisonburg Slavic Christian Church Hosts Fundraiser to Support Ukrainians

HARRISONBURG, Va. (WHSV) – “People were just living their normal lives, their daily routine. They were making plans just to live, to raise their children. Then one day, like it happened in World War II, they started bomb,” Andriy Bogachuk said.

As the war in Ukraine escalates, two million people have fled the country. Some may be wondering how they can help from here at home.

The Harrisonburg Slavic Christian Church is holding a fundraiser to support Ukrainians seeking shelter. There will be baked goods and food items for sale and the recommended donation is $14 per box.

“Until it’s over and even when it’s over, we’ll have a huge job to do to help those who have been affected. Don’t ignore it, don’t let it be one of those things you think about then you forget,” said Max Moroz, one of the organizers of the event.

Organizers say that while they hope you can come out and support and donate, there is a sure way to help.

“Everyone, everywhere, keep praying for us, keep praying. Protect Ukraine in your prayers from enemies and from God,” Bogachuk said.

Fundraising begins at noon this Sunday, March 13 at 463 Erickson Ave. in Harrisonburg. It will be drive-in style, but if you want to learn more about the church, you are welcome inside. Organizers say 100% of donations go to Ukrainians in need.
