Westside Christian Church minister dies at 85 | Obituary






Richard Allen Parker


Richard Allen Parker, U.S. Army veteran and minister and trustee of Westside Christian Church and School in Redlands, died Jan. 19, 2022. He was 85.

Born March 21, 1936 in Grandview, Illinois, to Edward Reed and Elizabeth Parker, he grew up on a farm in Indiana.

Parker met his future wife Peggy when he was 10 and she was 7. The families met when his older brother married Peggy’s first cousin, Mary Lou Anglin.

He served two churches over a period of 50 years, being ordained into the Christian ministry by Dr. J. Merlin Hill of Victor Valley Christian Church in Hesperia in 1974.

He served in the U.S. Army for two years, receiving top honors for his training and special weapons expertise, complete with a letter of congratulations from General Ryan of the U.S. Army’s Seventh Division.

He is survived by his wife Peggy; his daughter Roberta Lynn and son-in-law Stephen Rehwald; grandchildren Jonathan Hrovat, Jacob Hrovat and Sarah Hrovat; and several nieces and nephews.

Services were held on Tuesday, February 22, followed by funeral services at Riverside National Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Westside Christian Church, 1495 W. Olive in Redlands.
