Mayor Srinagar visits St. Luke’s Church to greet Christian community

The church was reopened after more than 30 years as the church witnessed an enthusiastic Christmas celebration after restoration and conservation work was carried out as part of the Srinagar Smart City project, said the Mayor Mattu on occasion.

Srinagar Mayor Junaid Mattu and Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) Commissioner Athar Amir visited the newly inaugurated St. Luke’s Church in Dalgate on Saturday to welcome the Christian community on Christmas.

They both commended the church authorities for opening the church to the faithful after a period of thirty years while greeting the entire Christian community.

The church was reopened after more than 30 years as the church witnessed an enthusiastic Christmas celebration after restoration and conservation work was carried out as part of the Srinagar Smart City project, a said Mayor Mattu on the occasion.

The mayor on the occasion said that this was one of the most beautiful projects that has been carried out successfully.

SMC / PDG Commissioner Mr Athar said on the occasion that the church had suffered severe structural damage and degradation, including damage to the foundation and walls, decay of the roof, vegetation growths, l accumulation of silt and debris, rotting of the khatmband roof, etc.

He expressed his gratitude to his Srinagar Smart City team, tourism department and the local artisans and workers who made this possible in a short time.

The restoration and conservation of the work of the church was carried out with the help of local workers and craftsmen who have restored it to its full glory. It is a great moment for all my team and our city said Mr Athar Amir Khan.
