Zamfara police have confirmed receipt of letter of threat to the Christian community from armed bandits suspected of shutting down churches in the state over the next three years or risking fierce attacks

The suspected armed bandits also list some churches on the outskirts of the state capital that will be attacked during religious activities before the end of the year.

The police command said it has opened an investigation into the case to arrest the perpetrators.

State Police Commissioner Ayuba Elkanah revealed this at a press conference in Gusau, the state capital

He says that after carefully studying the letter, the command informed church leaders of the development.

He urged Christians in the state to remain calm as the command is aware of the situation and will continue to provide security in all places of worship.

Police also arrested twelve suspected armed bandits who attempted to ambush police soldiers as they patrolled the community of Bargaja, in the local government area of ​​Gusau.

Among the suspects are young people under 20 who beheaded innocent people along the Gusau – Tsafe road

Three kidnapping victims were also rescued during an attempted kidnapping in the Talata Mafara local government area, in the state.

Locally made rifles, magazines, more than five hundred live bullets, bloodstained cutlasses and knives, sticks and other weapons were recovered from the suspects.
