The First Christian Church held its 3rd edition of Trunk or Treat

ZANESVILLE, Ohio – The First Christian Church today had its third annual trunk or treat which consisted of a pet blessing station, a photo booth and a simple craft for the kids.

Lori Buchanan, head of evangelism at First Christian Church, said the trunk or treat is for Halloween, but they also hope the children can be part of the church’s programs.

“Our church is really important for outreach, kids, and community service, so we wanted them to come and be part of our trunk or treat, and hopefully participate in our activities at the church, ”Buchanan said.

Some programs offered by the church are the Holiday Bible School and the Christmas program.

At the chest or treat level, pets could also receive a blessing and a treat. Reverend Philip Hunt, pastoral associate at First Christian Church, explained where the idea of blessing pets came from.

“The blessing of pets actually came from Saint Francis of Assisi, who is known for his relationship and love for animals. Many times you will see a statue of Saint Francis with his hand and probably a bird in the hand, a very gentle man. So the idea of blessing pets at this time of year came with the idea of Saint Francis and his prayer for animals, ”said Reverend Hunt.
